Artist’s biography and statement
Karl Bronk’s early fascination with fine art began while living in France and New York City, with the study of original classical paintings in the Louvre, the MET and other museums and art galleries in Paris and Manhattan. The magic of those artists to replicate the visual world with dabs of oil paint started him on a journey of drawing and painting, but it was the bold and daring color interpretations of the Impressionists that led him to art school. Receiving his education as an art major at Salem State College and Montserrat College of Art, he studied under Mark Rauzens, Lisa Fader, Nick Waggman among others. Launching his career as an art director and illustrator for Boston advertising agencies Karl continued fine art painting in oil and pastel. After leaving the advertising field, he devoted himself to exploring the representational qualities of light, color and form through their application in the classical tradition.
The common belief that art is an external activity designed for passive viewing undermines the truth that people most often experience art through intellectual and emotional curiosity and wonder. Representational art is a fundamental human response to the world we live in. Through my personal interpretation of mass forms, lines, edges, values and color shapes I hope to expose the visual poetry of natural and man-made arrangements often overlooked in the everyday bustle of life.
